NOTE: This tournament is only for students in Grades K-5

Schedule and Format: 5 Round Swiss. G/30; d5 for all rounds. All students play 5 games, no elimination. In non-rated games, notation is not required, and clocks are not required but may be used if both players agree. In rated games, notation is optional for players in U500, but a player may lose the right to make claims requiring a score sheet; notation is required for all other rated players. Clocks will be used in all sections with games reaching the time limit. Rated players should bring their own clocks. Sets will be provided.

Sections:                          

K-5 Open: Designed for the top rated players     

K-5 U1000: Includes all rated players with ratings below 1000                   

K-5 U500: Includes all rated players with ratings below 500                                

Grades 4-5 Non-Rated: Includes all nonrated players in grades 4-5         

Grades 2-3 Non-Rated: Includes all nonrated players in grades 2-3 

Grades K-1 Non-Rated: Includes all nonrated players in grades K-1

NOTE: Players with more than 10 rated games are not eligible for the non-rated sections. Players in the rated sections must be registered with http://www.uschess.org  before the tournament. May ratings will be used. Depending on the number of registrations, the organizers may decide to combine sections. Notification will be given to families before May 20th if this is the case.

Schedule:

8:30 – 8:45 Self-check-in. No section changes after 8:45 AM

8:50 – 8:55 Announcements

9:00 – 10:10 Round 1

NOTE: Subsequent rounds will start once everyone in the section finishes. Players are scheduled to play all five rounds (no elimination). Estimated end time for non-rated players: 2:30 PM. Estimated end time for U500: 3:00 PM. Estimated end time for U1000: 3:30 PM. Estimated end time for Open: 4:00 PM. Awards will be conducted as sections finish.

Registration: Register at columbuschessacademy.org. $30 for all registrations until May 13th; thereafter $35 registration fee until 6:00 PM May 19th. Discounted entry fee for students with financial need are available. Contact Kathy Lin for more information. No on-site registrations. To register by mail: Contact Kathy Lin. Refunds for withdrawals with $5 administrative fee will be given if requested by 6:00 PM, May 19th. No refunds thereafter.

Awards: Trophies to all players achieving a score of 3.5 points or higher. Trophies to top 3 teams (school only) in each section (top 3 scores count for team). Participation medals available to all students.

Concessions: Concessions will be available on-site for purchase (cash and Venmo).

Directions: Ecole Kenwood Elementary is located at 3770 Shattuck Ave, Columbus, OH, 43220. Please park in the main parking lot (spaces or curbside).  In the small parking lot, please park only in the spaces.  Please do not park curbside in the small lot, because that is the fire lane.  Parking on nearby streets is also available.
