Eligibility: Any student enrolled in an Ohio school, or home schooled in Ohio, in grades K-12 is eligible to participate. All students need an active USCF Membership as all sections are rated. Each section is the grade level the student is in. Players only play other students in their same grade level.


Format: 5 Round Swiss System individual/team for all grade levels. Students play all rounds, no elimination. Can request one 0.5-point bye before start of Round 2. Notation is required in Grades 4 and above.


Time-Control and Schedule:

Doors open at 8:30 AM. On-site check-in is from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Players are eligible to request byes or make changes between 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Announcements at 9:45 AM.


Grades K-5: G30; d5

Round 1: 10 AM

Round 2: 11:30 AM

Round 3: 1 PM

Round 4: ASAP after Round 3

Round 5: ASAP after Round 4


Grades 6-12: G45; d5

Round 1: 10 AM

Round 2: 12 PM

Round 3: 2 PM

Round 4: ASAP after Round 3

Round 5: ASAP after Round 4

 

NOTE: Rounds 4 and 5 for all grade levels will start as soon as everyone in the section has finished their round.


Awards: Awards will begin once everyone in the section has finished. Trophies to all players achieving a score of 3.5 points or higher. Trophies to top 3 teams in each section (top 3 scores count for team). Two or more players enrolled in the same school in the same grade will be eligible for a team prize. Participation medals available to all students.

 

Entry Fee: $40 before November 5th, $45 thereafter. Last day to register is November 17th, 6 PM. No on-site registrations accepted. Discounted USCF memberships for new/expired players are available for $13. If interested, please make a note when registering.


Registration: Online registration at http://columbuschessacademy.org. To register by mail, please print out last page and mail to Kathy Lin. Rooms for teams available to reserve, first-come, first-served. Contact Kathy Lin for details.


Current USCF membership is required to play. Players must be registered with http://www.uschess.org before the tournament. Official November published rating will be used. Columbus Chess Academy will provide all sets. Students need to bring their own clocks and know how to set them. In all sections, clocks will be used if games approach the time limit. Sets and clocks will be available for purchase at site. This is an Ohio Scholastic Chess Association Championship event.


Food and Lodging: Affordable on-site food concession. Many restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Several hotels in the area.
