NOTE: This tournament is for players in Grades K-6 Only (6th grade must play in a rated section)

Format: 5 Round Swiss. G/30; d5 for all rounds. All students play 5 games, no elimination. In non-rated games, notation is not required, and clocks are not required but may be used if both players agree. In rated games, notation is optional for players rated under 500, but a player may lose the right to make claims requiring a score sheet; notation is required for all other rated players. Clocks will be used in all sections with games reaching the time limit. Rated players should bring their own clocks. Sets will be provided.

Sections:                          

K-6 Rated: Designed for the rated players in grades K-6    

3-5 Non-Rated: Includes all nonrated players in grades 3-5         

K-2 Non-Rated: Includes all nonrated players in grades K-2

NOTE: Because of the number of registrations, the rated sections have all been combined. Players with more than 10 rated games are not eligible for the non-rated sections. Players in the rated sections must be registered with http://www.uschess.org  before the tournament. March ratings will be used.

Schedule:

8:30 – 8:45 Self-check-in. No section changes after 8:45 AM

8:50 – 8:55 Announcements

9:00 – 10:10 Round 1

Subsequent rounds will start once everyone in the section finishes. Players are scheduled to play all five rounds (no elimination). Estimated end time for non-rated players: 2:30 PM. Estimated end time for rated players: 3:30 PM.

Registration: Register at columbuschessacademy.org. $30 for all registrations until February 25th; thereafter $35 registration fee until 6:00 PM March 1st. Discounted entry fee for students with financial need are available. Contact Kathy Lin for more information. No on-site registrations. To register by mail: Contact Kathy Lin. Refunds for withdrawals with $5 administrative fee will be given if requested by 6:00 PM, March 1st. No refunds thereafter.

Awards: Trophies to all players achieving a score of 3.5 points or higher in the non-rated sections. Since the rated sections have been combined, we are doing the top 3 places overall, with the top two U1000 and the top two U500 rated players also receiving trophies. Nonrated players playing in the rated sections are eligible for the overall trophies but not the under trophies. Trophies to top 3 teams (school only) in each section (top 3 scores count for team). All students will receive a medal or keychain.

Concessions: Concessions will be available on-site for purchase (cash and Venmo).

Directions: Ecole Kenwood Elementary is located at 3770 Shattuck Ave, Columbus, OH, 43220. Please park in the main parking lot (spaces or curbside).  In the small parking lot, please park only in the spaces.  Please do not park curbside in the small lot, because that is the fire lane.  Parking on nearby streets is also available.
